Reese’s Headshots

I met Reese¬† (Reese’s Pieces) when I started working for the company I work for now. She is part of the college team division of the company, while I’m in operations. Both of our areas shared our Austin campus location. I was immediately drawn to her because we share similar interests and we make each other laugh. Over the past year and a half, we have developed a pretty fun friendship, and I think the world of her. She just got engaged on NYE and has started the fun process of planning her wedding! Super excited for her and her future husband. Below are some headshots from our session. She totally needs to model as a side gig, she’s fierce y’all!

I’m almost done editing photos from Tagger’s 4th birthday party last week! Look for those on the blog next week. Have a wonderful weekend!

Reese Headshot Sneak Peek!

2018… Get the Frigggg Outta Here!

So it’s been a year… it feels like 2018 lasted 5 years. I’m ready for it to go. 2018 wasn’t 100% terrible, but it wasn’t that awesome either. From company layoffs to illness to missing key family moments, I would rate this year about a 3.5 out of 10. I’m ready for a fresh start and ready to start the new year on a positive note!

This past year, I’ve neglected to put time and effort into seeing my family. Luis and I have both been so bogged down with work, that we’ve missed birthdays, vacations, holiday functions and just visiting and spending time with our family. That is something I’m not proud of. I love both of our families. I love our friends as well. We have built a pretty awesome home away from home family here in the Austin area, and even those were sacrificed. I feel pretty upset that I let what was going on around us get the best of me and not focus on what matters the most to me, friends and family.

As we close 2018 and head into 2019, below are some things I’m looking forward to.

  1. Making memories with Luis. I want to focus less on collecting things and more about making memories. I hope to take some time to explore the world around us and create memories of us spending time together.
  2. Growing closer to our families and friends. I want to dedicate more time with the people in our lives. More happy hours, get-togethers, getaways, adventures, movie nights… anything! I love surrounding myself with good people.
  3. Work on me. Always room for improvement! There’s always a better Jalys to be created.
  4. Attending our friends and families weddings! We have two already slated for 2019, and we are honored to be invited and to get to celebrate! Team Caro Que Si is ready!
  5. Photograph. I’ll admit it, it is tough to lug a camera around with you nowadays thanks to iPhones, but I want to photograph more. I want to document the daily and unexpected. I think the dogs will carry the brunt of this as they are my favorite subjects. 2019 will for sure have more photos of the Caro tribe.
  6. Embrace the unexpected. Let’s see what 2019 has in store for us! I don’t want to plan our year in too much detail.
  7. Branding the brand. I will be making some changes to this website/blog. I’m still available for photography sessions, but I want this blog to be more than just a photo blog. I want to share family recipes, products I like, photos, adventures, etc. I don’t want to put my blog in a niche. I’m anti niche! Hahaha. I’ll be updating and rebranding soon. I have ideas in my head, but I need to spend some time creating those ideas.

I hope everyone has a wonderful NYE and would love to hear some of your 2018 highlights moving into 2019. We did have some fun in 2018, below is a photo from our trip to Jamaica. Ya man!

See you in 2019!

Goals 2015.

I’m embarrassed. It has been 4 months since I have posted a blog. That is pretty pathetic. When I first started Photostar Photography, I would plan to post at least twice a week and keep my photography active. Years later it is sad to see that isn’t the case. Seeing my depleting blog and the lack of photos I’ve taken this year makes me sad. Instead of dwelling, I’ve decided to be proactive and make things happen. I set a few other goals for myself in 2015, and I thought I would share. I think the overall consensus of my goals is to make more time for myself on a personal level. I work. I work a lot. I bring my work home. I carry my work into my personal life. 2015 will be different.

1. Lead a healthy lifestyle. I attempt to be healthy. I’ve conducted hundreds of hours of research and know that what you put in your mouth is 80% of the battle. I know a Paleo type diet is best. Understanding and doing are two different things. I know all of the information, I have several books, follow Instagram accounts and research recipes…. but I always have an excuse as to why I can’t commit. I joined a CrossFit gym in August. It is expensive. Hoping a large amount of money I was spending on said CrossFit would be the motivating factor, I failed and haven’t committed to it 100%. I would turn off my alarm, I hit snooze, I made every single excuse… you know, I work and travel so much. Which, to an extent is true, but I could reserve 2-3 hours a week for myself and my health. At the end of the year, I still haven’t made any progress. 2015 will be different. I will be living a healthy lifestyle this year. I will go to CrossFit¬†and have my me time. No more excuses.

2. Photograph.¬†I love taking photos. Heck, I have a Photocommunications degree from Texas Tech. But this past year my camera has sat in her fabulous bag and hasn’t been touched since July. I’m going to challenge myself to photograph something at least twice a month. Whether you guys see more photos of my dogs, Texas Tech related photos, music, food, my handsome boyfriend, or a fun shoot with some friends, I am going to make time for photography. It is a significant part of my life, no more neglecting in.

3. Dedicate time to my blog site. New photos mean consistent blogging. I love opening up my world to everyone. I do that a lot with Instagram, and so I think I might be cooling it on the Instagram photos and use my blog site as the primary medium for sharing my life. I will not only blog about photos, but I’ll share a variety of things. Expect more blogs with random topics like music, makeup, tv shows, anything!

4. Travel and be¬†adventurous.¬† I travel about 75-80% of the time for my job. But, I want to travel more. When I travel for my job, I usually have multiple appointments, and I’m strained for time. I want to use my personal time to¬†travel and do new things. There are tons of fun day trips that are easy to get to from Austin. I want to explore more of Texas and share my experience with everyone.

5. Become even more happy with my life. I am a blessed individual. I have a supportive family, an awesome boyfriend, three babies (Rocker, Ryder, and Colonel), a paycheck, a roof over my head and a car to take me to the places I want to go. Sometimes I take these things for granted. Moving forward, I’m going to cherish everything I have and focus on the positive. It is easy to complain and whine about the things that aren’t going right in your life. I often forget about the great things I have going for me. I’m the worst about complaining, sometimes I complain just to contribute to a conversation. It’s tiring, it’s exhausting, and it’s unnecessary. I’m not a victim of my life, and I need to stop acting like I am.

Looks like I’m going to be busy this year! These goals will help me live the life I want to live. The life I’m going to live. Keep me in line, folks! I can’t wait to come back to this blog right before 2016 and see the progress I made in 2015. I wish everyone a happy, healthy and festive new year!

New outlook.

Photographic proof I’m still alive. Christmas 2014.

Rock on!
